Logistics Giant CMA CGM Goes Offline to Block Malware Attack

CMA CGM S.A., a French maritime transport and logistics giant, today disclosed a malware attack affecting some servers on the edge of its network.

The attack forced CMA CGM’s IT teams to cut Internet access to some applications to block the malware from spreading to other network devices.

CMA CGM has 755 offices, 750 warehouses, and over 110,000 employees in more than 160 countries, and it operates a shipping fleet of over 480 vessels on more than 200 shipping lines.

Customers asked to contact local agencies for bookings

“The CMA CGM Group (excluding CEVA Logistics) is currently dealing with a cyber-attack impacting peripheral servers,” a statement published earlier on the company’s website says.

“An investigation is underway, conducted by our internal experts and by independent experts,” the company added. “A new communication will be issued at the end of the day.”

“The CMA CGM group, excluding CEVA Logistics, is currently dealing with a cyber attack on peripheral servers,” the company’s Vice President Joël Gentil said in a statement earlier.

“Now that we have identified this problem, we have interrupted the access to our system to prevent the malware from spreading. Now our information system is resuming.”

Possible Ragner Locker ransomware attack

An earlier report from Lloyd’s List says that some of the French maritime carrier’s Chinese offices were allegedly hit by Ragnar Locker ransomware.

Ragnar Locker ransomware was first detected during late December 2019 with its operators being known for targeting software used by managed service providers (MSPs) to prevent attacks from being detected and blocked.
