Lenovo has issued an advisory warning that Windows 10 2004, the May 2020 Update, can cause BSODs in various ThinkPad laptop models.
As part of our Windows 10 Updates Health Report – KB4566782 & KB4565351, we reported that Lenovo ThinkPad users were encountering BSOD crashes when virtualization was enabled in Windows 10.
In a Lenovo advisory released this month, the computer manufacturer warned that ThinkPad models from 2019 and 2020 with Virtualization enabled in the “Enhanced Windows Biometric Security” setting, could encounter crashes and other bugs.
After installing the August 2020 cumulative update for Windows 10 Version 2004, users may notice one or more of the following symptoms:
These issues are caused by incompatible drivers conflicting with the virtualization features of Windows 10.

To check if virtualization is enabled, you can go open the ThinkPad BIOS setup and under the Security > Virtualization menu, check the status of the Enhanced Windows Biometric Security setting.
If you encounter issues since in Lenovo ThinkPads after upgrading to Windows 10 2004, you can try disabling this setting to resolve the crashes and other bugs.
Microsoft typically creates Windows 10 2004 upgrade blocks when driver conflicts like this arise.
We would not be surprised if Microsoft upgrades to Windows 10 2004 for affected Lenovo ThinkPads if updated drivers are not released.
