Windows 10 KB5016616 and KB5016623 Updates Released

Microsoft has released the Windows 10 KB5016616 and KB5016623 cumulative updates for versions 21H2, version 21H1, version 20H2, and 1809 to fix security vulnerabilities and resolve bugs and performance issues.

This update is not available for Windows 10 1909 or Windows 10 2004.

What’s new in Windows 10 KB5016616

After installing this update, Windows 10 20H2 will be updated to build 19042.1826, Windows 10 21H1 will be updated to build 19043.1826, and Windows 10 21H2 will be updated to build 19044.1826.

The update gives you the option to receive important notifications when focus assist is on. Focus assist is like a do not disturb mode that hides notifications.

It also estores functionality for Windows Autopilot deployment scenarios that are affected by the security mitigation for hardware reuse. This update removes the one-time use restriction for self-deploying mode (SDM) and pre-provisioning (PP). This update also re-enables any User Principal Name (UPN) display in user-driven mode (UDM) deployments for approved manufacturers.

Likewise, a bug has been fixed where docking stations to lose internet connectivity when waking from Sleep mode. Here’s the complete release note:

  • Adds functionality that improves the OS upgrade experience.
  • Addresses an issue that might cause consecutive video clip playback to fail in games that use DX12.
  • Addresses an issue that affects certain games that use the XAudio API to play sound effects.
  • Addresses an issue that affects the height of the Search box when you use multiple monitors that have different resolutions.
  • Addresses an issue that prevents certain troubleshooting tools from opening.

This Windows 10 cumulative update is mandatory and will automatically be installed by Windows Update during your servicing window. However, Windows users can manually install the updates by going to Settings, clicking on Windows Update, and selecting ‘Check for Updates.
