Windows 11 KB5011493 Update Released with Bug Fixes and Improvements

Microsoft has released the Windows 11 KB5011493 cumulative update with security updates, quality improvements, and a fix for OneDrive that was not deleting files.

KB5011493 is a mandatory cumulative update as it contains the March 2022 Patch Tuesday security updates for vulnerabilities discovered in previous months.

Windows 11 users can install today’s update by going to Start Settings > Windows Update and clicking on ‘Check for Updates.’

What’s new in the Windows 10 KB5011493 update

After installing the KB5011493 update, Windows 11 will change its build number to 22000.556.

Microsoft’s cumulative update release notes are no longer listed in the support bulletins but instead shared in a video.

Some of the highlighted fixes in the Windows 11 KB5011493 update are:

  • You can now share cookies between Microsoft Edge and Microsoft Edge Internet Explorer mode, providing more seamless integration.
  • The Windows 11 clock and date will now be shown on the taskbar for other monitors connected to your device.
  • Microsoft fixed an issue that displays right-to-left (RTL) language text, such as Hebrew, as left-justified on File Explorer command menus and context menus.
  • Microsoft fixed an issue causing the time zone list to be blank for non-administrators.
  • Microsoft fixed incorrect tooltips when hovering over other icons like battery, volume, or Wi-Fi.
  • We added a new entry point for the Widget app to show live weather content on the left side of the taskbar when you hover over it. Microsoft is starting with Weather but may expand to other content in the future.

Microsoft also states that they fixed a Microsoft OneDrive bug that was not correctly deleting files when resetting a Windows device.

“When you select Remove everything, files that have been downloaded or synced locally from Microsoft OneDrive might not be deleted,” explains the KB5011493 release notes.

“Some devices might take up to seven (7) days after you install this update to fully address the issue and prevent files from persisting after a reset. For immediate effect, you can manually trigger Windows Update Troubleshooter using the instructions in Windows Update Troubleshooter.”

Finally, Microsoft updated the servicing stack to resolve bugs or issues preventing Windows Updates from properly installing future updates.

Microsoft now bundles the servicing stack with the cumulative update, so there is not a separate update to install.

For a complete list of changes, you can review the Windows Insider KB5010414 preview update release notes, which reflect the changes in today’s KB5011493 cumulative update.
