Microsoft Fixes Windows 10 Apps Rendering Outside their Window

Microsoft has resolved a newly acknowledged issue causing Windows apps that use WebView2 to render Internet content incorrectly outside their windows after installing the March optional preview cumulative updates. 

The WebView2 control allows developers to embed and render web content in native apps using the Microsoft Edge web browser, including JavaScript, HTML, and CSS.

According to a new entry added to the Window Health dashboard, “some apps might render content incorrectly or outside of the app’s window” on systems where the March non-security preview releases have been installed.

“Affected apps are using WebView2 to render content generated locally or downloaded from the internet,” Microsoft further explains.

Redmond engineers have addressed this known issue using Known Issue Rollback (KIR), a Windows capability that can revert buggy non-security fixes delivered through Windows Update.

While the company says the fix will reach consumer devices and non-managed business devices within 24 hours, you might be able to speed up this process by restarting your Windows device.

Group policies to fix the issue on enterprise systems

Impacted platforms include Windows client versions (Windows 10 21H2, Windows 10 21H1, and Windows 10 20H2) and server platforms (Windows Server 2022).

Windows admins can resolve this issue for affected enterprise-managed devices by installing and configuring the Group Policy matching their version of Windows:

• Download for Windows 10 2004, Windows 10 20H2, and Windows 10 21H1 – KB5011543 Issue 001 Rollback

With the KB5011543 March non-security update, Microsoft fixed a Bluetooth issue leading to Windows 10 systems crashes with blue screens of death (BSODs) after installing the January KB5009596 cumulative update.

The company also addressed an access violation error causing the HTTP.sys web server to stop working on some Windows Server 2022 devices with the release of the KB5011558 March optional preview cumulative update.
