Ransomware Threats and How Small Businesses can Fight Them

Microsoft reminded enterprise customers this week that App Assure engineers are ready to help resolve any app compatibility issues encountered after upgrading to Windows 11.

This comes after Windows 11 entered its broad deployment, its final phase of availability, at the end of January, which makes it available to everyone with an eligible device via Windows Update.

The company said that it saw strong demand for Windows 11 upgrades since its release in October 2021, prompting Microsoft to fast forward the pace of the rollout.

The Chief Product Officer for Windows and Devices, Panos Panay, added that customers are switching to the latest Windows version at twice the rate of Windows 10 adoption, and Windows 11 has “the highest quality scores and product satisfaction” of any version ever shipped.

Yesterday, possibly hinting at some extent of enterprise adoption issues, the company reminded its business customers that they can rely on App Assure, a service launched in 2018 and aiming to help customers resolve app compatibility issues.

“Whether you are a large enterprise or a small business, App Assure can provide application compatibility assistance and help you feel confident upgrading your devices to Windows 11,” Microsoft said.

“As part of Microsoft’s commitment to app compatibility, the goal is that all of your apps simply work after the upgrade to Windows 11, with no changes required.”

Redmond said in October, when it extended the App Assure program to cover Windows 11, that App Assure engineers help resolve any issues “at no additional cost with eligible subscriptions.”

During the three years since the program debuted, the company claims that after evaluating 837,699 customer apps through App Assure, 99.6% of them were compatible with Windows 11, and only 3,307 required some level of remediation.

Per Microsoft, App Assure engineers are available to work with customers experiencing app compatibility issues on Windows 11 to fix the root causes and will:

  • Help troubleshoot and identify a root cause
  • Provide guidance to help you remediate the application compatibility issue
  • Engage with third-party independent software vendors (ISVs) on your behalf to remediate some part of their app, so that it’s functional on the most modern version of our products
  • Work with Microsoft product engineering teams to fix product bugs

“If you do encounter a compatibility issue on Windows 11, though, App Assure engineers will work with you to help resolve the issue in addition to working with engineering teams to find and fix the root cause,” Microsoft added.
