In our second Microsoft weekly news roundup, we bring you the latest news regarding Windows 10, Microsoft, and this week’s Surface 2020 event.
During Surface event 2020, Microsoft announced two new Surface devices and a bunch of other products. In addition, Microsoft also patched multiple issues in Windows 10 version 2004 and announced a new feature to help you monitor your SSD drives.
This week, Microsoft finally published the September 2020 optional update for Windows 10 version 2004 to fix issues with NCSI, LTE modems, and Windows Subsystem for Linux.
The update also comes with a raft of other fixes and you can view the complete changelog here.
With Windows 10 Build 20226, Microsoft has finally added storage health monitoring to Windows 10, which allows the operating system to show alert messages for issues affecting their NVMe (Non-Volatile Memory Express) Solid State Drives (SSDs).

Earlier this week, Microsoft started pushing out a confusing mess of Intel drivers updates that would make it difficult for users to understand what should be installed.

On Friday, Microsoft quietly published a new tool to help users and admins patch Windows 10 and Windows Server installation images with the latest Microsoft Defender updates.
This allows the users and admins to address the security concerns until anti-malware definitions are updated.

During October 1st event, Microsoft announced Surface Laptop Go and Surface Pro X with Microsoft SQ2 processor.
Surface Laptop Go is the lightest and most affordable Surface Laptop that comes with a 12.4-inch display, Windows 10 Home in S Mode with support for Microsoft Store apps.
This device weighs at 2.45 lbs and it features a sleek metallic design, full-size keyboard, and more.
Surface Pro X new variant comes with Microsoft SQ2 and improved performance.

The latest batch of the cumulative update comes with a raft of fixes:
Microsoft’s optional patch for Windows 10 fixes two bugs that prevented users from accessing apps that rely on Network Connectivity Status Indicator (NCSI).
After Windows 10’s May 2020 Update, users reported that they were unable to access apps NCSI-dependent apps, such as Spotify, Microsoft Store, Feedback Hub, etc due to false internet errors.
With the optional patch, Microsoft has resolved this bug where users saw internet connectivity errors in the Network Connectivity Status Indicator (NCSI) when the device was connected to the internet.

Microsoft has released a new Windows 10 version 2004 update that also fixes a bug that breaks the Windows Subsystem for Linux 2 (WSL 2).
Problems with Windows Subsystem for Linux were reported after Windows 10 KB4571756 cumulative update was released as part of the September 2020 Patch Tuesday.
After the patch, users reported that they could no longer access Linux distributions due to “Element not found”. With this patch, Microsoft has resolved the bug and you can learn more about it here.
